Misleading information appears to go well beyond news and can sometimes be found at the heart of Google - the platform the majority of us use to access the internet. A survey for Channel 4 has found that only 4 per cent of respondents - who were shown three true and three fake headlines - could accurately differentiate them all. When you start typing something in to the Google search box, it offers suggestions and at times these can be profoundly offensive. Journalist Carole Cadwalladr has been investigating why extreme and controversial ideas and results crop up and what, if anything, Google can do about it.
